About this retreat
This retreat combines Yoga and hill walking with healthy gourmet vegetarian cuisine in gorgeous surroundings.
The hikes are for anyone who has a reasonably active lifestyle and enjoys walking. During this week you will have 2 full days of hill walking in the beautiful landscape of the Alpujarra region with its waterfalls, gorges, Moorish villages & shaded valleys.
You’ll be walking for 2-3 hours per day on undulating terrain ranging from reasonably challenging gradients to moderately easy up and downhill. Although this region is one of the finest walking areas in Europe and has been certified by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve, you don’t need to be an athlete and there are some paved sections as well. In the evening when you return there is a restorative yoga session and then supper.
The other days include daily yoga sessions (2 hours in the morning and 1.5 hours in the evening), with plenty of time for therapies, rest, and relaxation in between. On Wednesday afternoon there will be an option for an Andalusian cultural excursion.
Please note: the hikes are not suitable if you have high blood pressure, reduced mobility, or are recovering from recent surgery.
Kaliyoga Spain is located 1.5 hours from Malaga airport, in the stunning Sierra Nevada mountains, in the Alpujarra region of Granada province. The Alpujarras are renowned for its verdant micro climate, waterfalls, gorges, Moorish villages & shaded valleys. One of the finest walking areas in southern Europe, the Alpujarras have been certified by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve.
Gourmet Vegetarian Food
The food at Kaliyoga will delight and amaze you. Our gourmet vegetarian cuisine is light, gluten free, vegan/coeliac friendly and absolutely delicious. And with three copious meals per day, you will never go hungry. Our super talented nutritionists are happy to suggest alternative ingredients if you have an intolerance to foods that could lead to an allergic reaction.
Yoga and meditation
Under the expert guidance of our fabulous in-house teachers, you will discover that yoga can be a tool not only for improving health and fitness but also for deep rest and mindful relaxation.
During the week we give you the tools and confidence to build a self-practice that you can develop at home. Our yoga method can be applied to all styles of yoga because, rather than focusing solely on stretching and shape-making, we teach you to balance your physical stability and strength with mindful tranquility. So, rather than trying to perfect the external shapes of yoga, you’ll begin to experience yoga as meditation in motion.
In the mornings there will be a 2-hour yoga class, preceded by a guided half-hour meditation and in the evenings 1.5 hours. The week culminates with a fun partner yoga session on Friday evening and a self-practice session on Saturday morning.
Because we teach yoga as mindfulness (as opposed to a type of exercise), we do not grade you in terms of your ability. Everyone is welcome, whether novice or experienced.
Time to yourself
You are welcome to use the outdoor facilities at any time : infra-red sauna, solar-heated swimming pool (temperature depends on the sun!) Or read in a hammock, catch up on some guilt-free sleep, or go for a walk in the beautiful Alpujarra mountains (we have walking maps, or a walking guide can be arranged) although there are two days of guided walking included on this retreat. If you want to sleep in and miss a yoga class, that’s fine too.

They can help you to free yourself from whatever might be holding you back; and most importantly of all, the powerful combination of yoga classes and holistic therapy sessions re-connect you with the wonderful person that you really are, rather than who you think you ‘should’ be.
When you return to Kaliyoga, you will be eligible for a free holistic relaxation session with the therapist of your choice, subject to availability.
Evenings can be quite social, though if you prefer to be quiet, that’s ok too. There is a warm sitting room with a cosy snug to curl up in and relax with a good book; or why not go for an evening stroll in the countryside, or stroll into town (about 20 mins on foot).
Things to see and do
Kaliyoga is located 10 minutes from the market town of Orgiva where you will find whole food & hippy shops, cafes and a bustling outdoor market on Thursday mornings. There is also horse riding, great mountain walks, Moorish white wash villages, beautiful beaches (35 mins drive) and paragliding for the adventurous. We are 50 minutes from the glittering Moorish city of Granada with its Alhambra Palace and Gypsy Flamenco quarter.
