About this retreat

This retreat features two full day guided walks plus daily yoga classes and meditation sessions. The guided walks are suitable for anyone who enjoys walking and has the basic fitness to tackle undulating terrain ranging from easy hills to moderately challenging gradients.

One of the finest walking areas in southern Europe, the Alpujarra region is renowned for its waterfalls, gorges, Moorish villages & shaded valleys and it has been certified by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve.

The first walk takes you through the beautiful landscape of the Sierra Lanjaron, guided by Sue, an experienced botanist, culminating in a homemade picnic lunch of gluten-free bread, salads & local cheeses at Sue’s stunning mountain-top home.

The second walk is guided by Arantza, our meditation & yoga teacher. She takes you up a mountain trail to the stunning Tibetan Buddhist Monastery ‘O Sel Ling’. There you will find monuments of Buddha of Healing and Tara, the most powerful female goddess of the Buddhist tradition. The beauty of this place is awesome and Arantza’s knowledge and passion for the Buddhist tradition is deeply inspiring.

PLEASE NOTE: these walks are not suitable if you have high blood pressure, reduced mobility or are recovering from recent surgery or major illness. Also, the walks may not be appropriate if you suffer from severe vertigo.



Kaliyoga Spain is located 1.5 hours from Malaga airport, in the stunning Sierra Nevada mountains, in the Alpujarra region of Granada province. The Alpujarras are renowned for its verdant microclimate, waterfalls, gorges, Moorish villages & shaded valleys. One of the finest walking areas in southern Europe, the Alpujarras have been certified by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve.

Gourmet Vegetarian Food 

The food at Kaliyoga will delight and amaze you. Our deliciously gourmet vegetarian cuisine is light, gluten free and vegan/coeliac friendly. And with three copious meals per day, you will never go hungry. Our super talented nutritionists are happy to suggest alternative ingredients if you have an intolerance to foods that could lead to an allergic reaction.


Yoga and meditation

Under the expert guidance of our fabulous in-house teachers Lelly and Arantza, you will discover that your yoga practice can be a tool not only for improving health and fitness but also for deep rest and mindful relaxation.

During the week, Lelly and Arantza give you the tools and confidence to build a self-practice that you can develop at home. Our yoga method can be applied to all styles of yoga because, rather than focusing solely on stretching and shape-making, we teach you to balance your physical stability and strength with mindful tranquility. So, rather than trying to perfect the external shapes of yoga, you’ll begin to experience yoga as it was originally intended.

In the mornings there will be a 2-hour yoga class, preceded by a guided half-hour meditation. On walking days, however, we skip the morning yoga session in favour of a hearty breakfast, returning in for a relaxing yoga session in the evening. The week culminates with a fun partner yoga session on Friday evening and a self-practice session on Saturday morning.

Because we teach yoga as mindfulness (as opposed to a type of exercise), we do not grade you in terms of your ability. Everyone is welcome, whether novice or experienced.


Time to yourself

You are welcome to sunbathe by the pool, read in a hammock, catch up on some guilt-free sleep, or go for a walk in the beautiful Alpujarra mountains (we have walking maps, or a walking guide can be arranged). If you want to sleep in and miss a yoga class, that’s fine too.

Holistic Relaxation

We are delighted to introduce you to our hand-picked team of world-class holistic therapists, available every afternoon to attend to your needs. They can help you to free yourself from whatever might be holding you back; and most importantly of all, the powerful combination of yoga classes and holistic therapy sessions re-connect you with the wonderful person that you really are, rather than who you think you ‘should’ be.

When you return to Kaliyoga, you will be eligible for a free holistic relaxation session with the therapist of your choice, subject to availability.

Wednesday: Free Day

After the Wednesday morning yoga class we serve brunch, then you are free to do as you please. Options for the day include a trip to the local beach (about 35 mins by car) or a trip to the picturesque mountain village of Pampaneira and waterfall nearby.

Alternatively, you may wish to visit the stunning Alhambra Palace in Granada; or simply stay at Kaliyoga and enjoy a cookery workshop where the food you create will be served in the evening. Please note that kitchen space is limited to 8 people.

If you would prefer to dine out at a local restaurant, we can arrange a taxi to take you into Orgiva (10 min). If you’d prefer to rest at home, a light evening meal is available.


Evenings can be quite social, though if you prefer to be quiet, that’s ok too. There is a warm sitting room with a cosy snug to curl up in and relax with a good book; or why not go for an evening stroll in the countryside, or stroll into town (about 20 mins on foot).

Things to see and do

Kaliyoga is located 10 minutes from the market town of Orgiva where you will find whole food & hippy shops, cafes and a bustling outdoor market on Thursday mornings. There is also horse riding, great mountain walks, Moorish white wash villages, beautiful beaches (35 mins drive) and paragliding for the adventurous. We are 50 minutes from the glittering Moorish city of Granada with its Alhambra Palace and Gypsy Flamenco quarter.
