The Walks

The Alpujarra region is renowned for its Moorish villages & shaded valleys, waterfalls and gorges – and it’s also a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Without doubt, this is one of the finest walking areas in southern Europe.

The walks are suitable for anyone who enjoys the outdoors and can tackle undulating terrain, ranging from easy hills to moderately challenging gradients.

One of the walks goes through the beautiful landscape of the Sierra Lanjaron, guided by an experienced botanist, then return to Kaliyoga for a rustic lunch.

Another walk is guided by Arantza, our meditation & yoga teacher, to the stunning Tibetan Buddhist meditation centre ‘O Sel Ling’. There, high up a mountain trail, you will find a surprisingly life-like statue of Tara, the most powerful female goddess in the Buddhist tradition. The beauty of this place is unforgettable and Arantza’s deep knowledge of the Buddhist tradition is inspiring.

If the weather is unsuitable for a mountain hike, a coastal walk is planned instead.

PLEASE NOTE: These walks are not suitable if you have high blood pressure, reduced mobility or are recovering from recent surgery or major illness. Also, the walks may not be appropriate if you suffer from severe vertigo.


Gourmet Vegetarian Food

The food at Kaliyoga will delight and amaze you. Our deliciously Mediterranean inspired gourmet vegetarian cuisine is light, gluten-free and vegan/allergy friendly. And with three copious meals per day, you will never go hungry.


Yoga and Meditation

Under the expert guidance of our in-house teachers Lely and Arantza, you will acquire tools and confidence to build a yoga practice that you can take home. Our yoga method can be applied to all styles of yoga, rather than focusing solely on stretching and shape-making. Physical stability and strength are balanced with mindful tranquility, so, rather than trying to perfect the external shapes of yoga, your yoga experience becomes a meditation in motion.

In the mornings there will be a 2-hour yoga class, preceded by a guided half-hour meditation and in the evenings 1.5 hours. The week culminates with a fun partner yoga session on Friday evening and a self-practice session on Saturday morning.

Because we teach yoga as mindfulness rather than exercise, we do not grade you in terms of your ability. Everyone is welcome, whether novice or experienced.

Our hand-picked holistic therapists are available every afternoon to attend to your needs. They can help you to free yourself from whatever might be holding you back; and most importantly of all, the powerful combination of yoga classes and holistic therapy sessions re-connects elements of yourself that may have floated away without you even realising.

Wednesday: Half Day

about this retreat yoga and hill walking kaliyoga

After the Wednesday morning yoga class we serve brunch, then you are free to do as you please. Options for the day include a trip to the local beach (about 35 mins by car); or a trip to the picturesque mountain village of Pampaneira and waterfall nearby; or a trip to the Alhambra Palace in Granada; or simply stay at Kaliyoga and rest. In the evening, take a taxi into Orgiva or Lanjaron to dine out at a local restaurant. If you’d prefer to rest at home, a light evening meal will be available.


Evenings can be quite social, though if you prefer to be quiet, that’s ok too. There is a warm sitting room with a cosy snug to curl up in and relax with a good book; or why not go for an evening stroll in the countryside, or stroll into town (about 20 mins on foot).

Our Location

The retreat is located in rural nature between the hill towns of Lanjarrón and Orgiva, surrounded by panoramic views of the Sierrra Nevada mountains and the Alpujarra hills. Approximately 1.5 hrs by car from Malaga airport

In our local market town are whole food & hippy shops, cafes and a bustling outdoor market on Thursday mornings. There is also horse riding, Moorish white villages, beautiful beaches (35 mins drive) and paragliding for the adventurous. We are 50 minutes from the glittering Moorish city of Granada’s Alhambra Palace and gypsy flamenco area.
