Our teachers & yoga method
Tashi is a dedicated yogi and a gifted teacher of ashtanga vinyasa yoga and dynamic yoga method. She has a keen sense of technical precision and supports you with a huge dollop of love and gentle humour. Using a step-by-step method, Tashi explores the traditional postures and sequencing of ashtanga vinyasa yoga, modified to suit all levels. Purifying the physical body and preparing you for deeper yogic practice, her sensitive approach includes pranayama (breathing techniques) and guided meditation, bringing you into mindful awareness, physically and meditatively.
The basic sequence of Ashtanga Vinyasa
We use the structure of Ashtanga Vinyasa to inform class sequences, taking the time to break each pose down, allowing the body and mind to fully integrate the subtleties of each posture. This teaching method helps you to relate deeply to the nature of cause and effect in your body, mind, and breath. This brings fresh energy into the organs and muscles and awakens you into a deeply satisfying awareness of being.
This yoga method is not an attempt to make anything happen; rather it is an enquiry into the possibility to see more clearly what is actually happening. This enquiry helps us to understand that although we may feel trapped in habitual thoughts and behaviour, the awareness from which we see that is always free, always here.
During our yoga posture practice, we amplify our ability to feel life, moment by moment, and to be fully aware of the sensations generated by the intelligence of our body. This approach leads us to an intimate familiarity with what is permanent, so we are liberated from feeling bound by things that are temporary and impermanent.
Beginners often find they can experience the essence of yoga during their very first lesson
Tashi has completed many teacher training courses in Australia, India and in Europe and has been teaching 200hr Yoga Alliance Teacher Training courses since 2008. Her principal teachers are Godfrey Devereux (dynamic yoga method), Sharath Jois (Astanga vinyasa yoga in Mysore) and John Ogilvie (bhakti & hatha yoga). Also qualified in Thai Yoga massage, Ayurvedic diagnosis, and massage, Tashi has a Masters Degree in Community Cultural Development and continues to study yoga and community development around the world with leading practitioners.
“Tashi is an amazing teacher, I learned so much from her in such a short space of time. Lots of love, Bindya”
Jenni excels at helping students of all ages to engage and connect more satisfyingly with themselves and with all aspects of life. She shares her love of yoga with students like a keen gardener – planting seeds, tending them and encouraging development.
Always seeking balance, she will challenge and support you, providing a safe space for enquiry and experimentation. In each class she encourages students to practice yoga in a compassionate and light-hearted way, combining the somatic sequencing of the Dynamic Yoga Method with elements of Ashtanga and Vinyasa flow.
Jenni’s classes are suitable for beginners/novices as well as experienced practitioners
In addition to teaching yoga, Jenni is also a vegetarian chef, a massage therapist, a Reiki Master and writes for Yoga magazines. Jenni’s teachers – Godfrey Devereux (Dynamic Yoga Method), Burgs (Burmese and Tibetan Buddhist meditation), Heather Elton (Hatha flow, restorative), Joey Miles and Sharath Jois (Ashtanga) as well as my friends and fellow teachers Tashi Dawa and Tara South (Vinyasa Flow).
I was enchanted by Jenni’s yoga course at Kaliyoga – Jenni’s strength is to bring all levels together so we were able to practice in the same class. A wonderful week, Louise x
Local Area Info
Puglia, a southern region forming the heel of Italy’s boot, is known for its whitewashed hill towns, centuries-old farmland and hundreds of kilometres of Mediterranean coastline.
Kaliyoga Italy is located in the stunning Itria Valley, one hour South of Bari, in the garden province of Puglia - voted for three years by National Geographic as the most beautiful place in the world.
The Masseria Pavone is a farmhouse that dates back to the sixteenth century with either single, shared or double accommodation in lovingly restored ‘Trulli’ protected by UNESCO as heritage sights.
This place is so breathtakingly beautiful it has to be seen to be believed.
These are some of the activities that will be available (subject to season and availability).
Cycle Tour in the Parco Dune Costiere
Enjoy a gentle bike ride through the coastal dunes natural park near the Adriatic coast. On this tour, you will visit several "masseria" (typical local farms) each of which specialises in a different local produce. Your guide will explain the distinctive histories, architecture and the specific function and purpose of each Puglian farmhouse.
As you cycle through this stunning nature reserve you will stop for a tour of a Masseria that specialises in olive oil production and visit a cheese-making farmhouse where you will have the opportunity to buy local fresh cheeses. There will be a stop en route for rest, toilets and refreshments.
Walking and Cycling in the Itria Valley
In your free time, you can walk or cycle across this gently rolling countryside towards local towns Martina Franca (3 km) or Locorotondo (4 km). Take some time to explore these two beautiful Baroque towns, visit the shops, wander through the weekly market or just stop and relax with a coffee or ice cream.
Visit The Beach
In the hot summer, weeks spend your Wednesday afternoon relaxing on the beach. Yoga in Sanskrit means to ‘yoke’, to yoke together or to bring into union the body, breath, and mind in the present moment... so continue your retreat experience with a few hours perfecting wholeness under the warm Puglian sun!

The Sunday Telegraph – 2015
I was lucky. My retreat with Kaliyoga in Italy was both authentic and a traveller’s delight. It pandered to our desire for a luxurious break, but with no compromise on the quality of the teaching, environment, and staff. All of it exemplified the purism of real yoga from the inside out. And that is something of which the male of our species is in dire need.
Men know how to rush, how to compete, how to strategise, how to panic, how to want, but few of us know how to just pause and be, even for one breath. There is something so hard about taking a moment to stop thinking and, rather, to notice what I am experiencing right now, that I needed two whole weeks of structured, cloistered care in order to glimpse it.

This retreat was also a wonderful opportunity to meet like-minded people and form ties with them. The contrast between our tense drawn faces and stiff bodies when we arrived and the sparkling expressions when we left was quite revealing of the release and joy experienced during the initiation. I have kept up my yoga practice since my stay even if only for just a few minutes in the morning.
I have only one thought when I think of this retreat: I want to go back as soon as possible and experience every step of this mesmerizing physical and mental transformation again.

A perfect balance of hippy and cool. Kaliyoga isn’t the competitive power yoga that is often found in Britain, The morning flow class is challenging but gentle. The afternoon session combines restorative yoga and alignment workshops, culminating in a partner class on the last day which has us collapsed on the floor laughing.

Last year I had an amazing experience at Kaliyoga in Spain, and the wellness yoga retreat has just opened its newest location in Puglia, Italy.
Sheerluxe – 2014
Tashi, our yoga teacher for the week, charmed everyone into a state of utterly blissful relaxation. I had specifically booked myself on a week when I knew she’d be teaching as I’d experienced her incredible energy and approachable teaching style before. It’s safe to say she’d gained a few more devoted fans by the end of the week. (Yes, she is that good!)
Mindfulness is such a buzzword in wellness circles right now and everyone seems to be throwing it around all over the place. I found Tashi’s teaching really demystified it for me, and I came home with renewed enthusiasm for a yoga practice and meditation.

Hip & Healthy – 2013
Being a fairly active lady who is used to clocking hours in the gym and pounding the pavement, I initially approached yoga with some caution. It looked wonderful, but would I be bored? Would I feel any tangible benefits? I imagine this is the trepidation of many thinking about giving the downward dog a chance, but I was feeling the effects of spending many hours a week hunched over my desk and knew that a week of turning off my work emails and escaping the rat race would do me no harm. But my week in the Andalusian mountains had more of an effect on me, my lifestyle and my outlook on my health than I could possibly have prepared for.
Brutally Frank – 2013
If I had only one word to describe Kaliyoga I’d say ‘sociable’. Swiftly followed by ‘laughter’ and ‘warmth’. I don’t think I have ever talked or laughed so much as during my week with a bunch of people who started off as complete strangers.

Juice like the stars on a Kaliyoga retreat…
Cosmopolitan Magazine – 2013
It was WONDerful! Exactly what I needed in my current state; yoga was not too strenuous so I could manage most of it even though am still not fighting fit, the food was incredible, the venue breathtaking and Jax the manager and Tashi the yoga teacher were just brilliant. They made everyone feel so welcome and the place had such a good vibe. I have been on quite a lot of yoga retreats / this type of holiday and I think this is the one that has had the most significant effect on me, so that’s saying something.

What do you call a place that has a sauna, a pool, a hot tub under the stars, a vast array of treatments and a philosophy that embraces nutrition, health, exercise, and spirituality? That must be a real spa, right? Wrong. This is Kaliyoga and this is a retreat. And that’s a whole different mindset.

I just want to thank everyone so much. The love, care and nurturing we all received even before we arrived and can feel even though we have left is extraordinary. The gifted and dedicated therapists are extraordinary and would put most luxury spa hotels around the world to shame. The place and the people at Kaliyoga have a very special energy and are nothing short of magical.

Daily Telegraph – 2005
In London you’d never catch me fasting (too greedy), giving up caffeine (too addicted) or consulting a healer (too cynical). Yet after a week at the Kaliyoga retreat in southern Spain, I had done all three, along with many more things I’d never have dreamt of. Chakra meditation? A day of total silence? Flamenco dancing? I loved them all.
Conde Nast Traveller – 2004
Go on, stretch yourself. Kaliyoga is all about total relaxation, but a week-long course can yield unexpected rewards, as Francesca Syz discovered at a yoga retreat deep in the Spanish countryside.
