Astanga Yoga in Spain

With Ruth Westoby
This week is for you to relax and have fun - to rejuvenate and enliven your body and mind through the warmth of a morning Astanga practice and to soften inwards in the tranquility of restorative afternoon sessions. There will be something for everybody - regardless of experience, age, flexibility. It's not about whether you can touch your toes or stand on your head (though everything is possible), but about enjoying the pure pleasure of moving your body and calming the mind, of opening to who you really are and experiencing sensation as it is.

What's Included
The cost includes accommodation, yoga classes morning and evening, three delicous vegetarian meals per day and the use of the sauna, hot tub and plunge pool. The food is tasty, imaginative, healthy and well balanced. In the afternoons you can book holistic treatments including holistic massage, acupuncture, Indian head massage, Thai yoga massage, aromatherapy massage, reflexology and also manicure and pedicure. The typical cost of a treatment is 55 euros.

Ruth Westoby - background
'I went to my first yoga class when I was sixteen and tried out different styles and teachers over the following years. I began practicing more and more Astanga and was soon appreciating the benefits of this ancient practice - strength to support flexibility, outer dynamism to support inner awareness.
Deepening my practice with teacher Hamish Hendry led me to leave the world of political consultancy to study in India. After practising with Sri K. Pattabhis Jois and his grandson Sharat Ragamswamy, I returned to London to teach full-time. I practise Primary, Intermediate and part of Advanced A Series. Along the way I have studied yoga with Sarah Powers, Richard Freeman, Rod Stryker, and Goenka style Vipassana meditation'.

Fitness level: a reasonable level of fitness and enthusiasm is recommended - you will be practicing yoga for between 3 to 4 hours each day.

Air Travel
Granada is the nearest airport via Ryanair. A good alternative is Malaga Airport which has a wide choice of flights. See Granada Info.com

Transfers
Reduce your carbon footprint by sharing a ride from the airport with other Kaliyga guests. On the Rideshare Message Board you can search for guest messages about car-sharing and you can leave a message about your itinerary for other guests to read, then they will email you about meeting up. The rideshare message board requires a user name and password - please email us for details.

Arrival Day
The retreat opens at 14:00 hrs. If you expect to arrive earlier than this, please let us know and don’t rely on the answerphone - make sure that you actually speak to a person at Kaliyoga! We will arrange for someone to collect you from Orgiva at 2pm.
The first Yoga class is from 5.30 to 7.00pm and this is followed by supper at 7.30pm.
